Most common skincare myths!
There are always new lists of ways to take care of your skin and there are always new products coming out in the market for your skincare routine. The influx of these regimens and products make it hard for some of us to separate the hype and the reality. We compiled a list of skincare myths that we might still be practicing.
Myth #1: You get acne because you don’t wash your face.
Not washing your face can contribute to getting acne, but it isn’t the sole reason. There is a combination of reasons on how acne develops on our skin: clogged pores from dead skin cells, sebum, bacteria, and inflammation.
Myth #2: You don’t need sunscreen on a cloudy day.
Even on a cloudy day, UV radiation from the sun can still reach the earth’s surface. Here’s a list of the harmful effects of sun exposure:
- Sunburn
- Premature skin aging
- Skin damage
- Skin cancer
So don’t forget to apply your sunscreen!
Myth #3: You don’t need to moisturize if you have oily skin.
Most cleansers will strip the natural oils from your skin, so you will need to replace that protective layer. No matter what your skin type—oily and acne-prone or dry and dehydrated—you need to be using some kind of moisturizer to keep your skin balanced and nourished.
Myth #4: Scrubbing your face skin to clean it.
While proper exfoliation can be helpful, vigorous and aggressive scrubbing will often cause further inflammation and scars. The skin on your face is one of the softest and thinnest that is why when washing your face, be gentle and thorough instead of harsh.
Myth #5: Water is good for your skin.
Drinking water will keep your skin hydrated, but using water to wash your skin too often can make it dry, itchy, flakey, tight, and itchy. This is because water can strip the skin of its natural oils, which the skin needs as a moisturizer.
The best way to keep your skin looking young and healthy is to stay out of the sun and use a good sunscreen throughout the day. You can also visit Bioessence to know more on how you can take care of the skin.
